Our Cockeyed Garden
We use a combination of Back to Eden, Lasagna, and Square Foot gardening methods in our organic planting beds. They are planted with organic/heritage seed stock. We use only organic fertilizers, such as compost, and organic pest control methods.Once we satisfy our own personal needs quota, the balance either will be saved for seed stock for future or will be offered for sale. The future plans also include selling CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares and surrounding farmers markets.
We also barter with local growers for items we or they don't grow. In this way we support our local growers and grow a community of like minded souls in self sustainability.
We currently have an organic, chemical free planting area at the front of our home and a 1/4 acre orchard area under development. With plans for another 1/4 acre for terracing future development and growing areas. The remaining acre will be left for firewood growth.
In total we have 2 acres to call our own. With very laxed property restrictions and low tax rates in Habersham County, GA, we can basically do what we wish to the property, With only two acres, we cannot support large animals. The property was abandoned and in foreclosure when Mel bought it sight unseen. Mel bought the place in 2014 and Jo arrived in 2016.
